How many times have you heard the statement “New year, new me”, and the same person wraps up his or her year with less achievements to the goals they set for themselves.
Most of the time, the reason is because these goals were suggested by someone else or we don’t have a realistic plan for achieving them.
Set SMART goals
Make sure to have the right resolutions that will improve you on the physical, mental and spiritual level, and most importantly set SMART goals:
Specific, your resolution should be absolutely clear. Making a concrete goal is really important rather than just vaguely saying ‘I want to read books’. Decide how many books you can read and set a realistic timeline for each.
Measurable, this may seem obvious if your goal is fitness or weight loss related. Decide how much weight you want to lose and at what time interval. Take a picture of yourself every month to track your progress.
Achievable, you can stretch your goals so that you don’t take big steps too fast in a way that might leave you frustrated, or affect other areas of your life. For example, resolving to save enough money can be possible if you set a realistic amount that won’t leave you broke by the end of the month.
Relevant, set a goal you know for sure will benefit you and isn’t taken by a driven emotion.
Time-bound, the timeline toward reaching your goal should be realistic. That means giving yourself enough time to do it with lots of smaller intermediate goals set up along the way.
